TCM in metoidioplasty: reconstruction guided by your goals
Metoidioplasty uses existing genital erectile tissue to construct the neophallus. In this context, TCM may be used as a mobilization approach to expand possibilities for exposure and reconstruction.

TCM is not synonymous with metoidioplasty
Metoidioplasty is the reconstructive procedure; TCM is an approach that may be discussed within that plan. It does not automatically represent a superior technique or a mandatory choice.
Goals that need to be discussed
Appearance, sensation, sexual function, the way of urinating, preservation of structures and recovery may lead to different decisions. Urethral lengthening is a separate decision and may add complexity and risks.
Risks and expectations
Healing problems, infection, changes in sensation and the need for revision may occur. When urethral reconstruction is involved, fistula and narrowing are important risks. Length, penetrative ability, standing urination or full preservation of sensation cannot be promised.
Safety, limitations and decision-making
All surgery involves risks, and individual results cannot be guaranteed. The indication depends on diagnosis, anatomy, health conditions, previous treatment, goals and the ability to complete the necessary follow-up. The consultation should compare expected benefits, risks, alternatives and the possibility of not having surgery at that time.
