DART-VAG: an autologous technique for increasing penile girth
DART-VAG uses the patient's own tissues, the dartos and tunica vaginalis, with the aim of increasing penile girth. Assessment should begin with the concern, expectations, sexual function, previous procedures and the effect of this concern on the person's life.

Who was initially studied
The initial research selected adults dissatisfied with their girth whose expectations were considered realistic. Patients with significant erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, active genital infection, uncontrolled psychiatric conditions or suspected body dysmorphic disorder were excluded. These criteria describe the study and do not replace individual assessment.
What the consultation needs to clarify
Feeling uncomfortable with appearance does not, in itself, mean that surgery is indicated. The discussion should clarify which changes are plausible, which expectations cannot be met and which alternatives may be considered.
Risks and limitations
Bleeding, infection, pain, healing changes and dissatisfaction with the outcome may occur. The initial publication reported wound breakdown and hematoma requiring treatment, including further operations. Using the patient's own tissue does not eliminate risks.
Available evidence
The initial 2026 publication in the World Journal of Urology followed 32 adults for at least six months. The absence of a comparison group and the still limited follow-up require caution when interpreting the results.
Safety, limitations and decision-making
All surgery involves risks, and individual results cannot be guaranteed. The indication depends on diagnosis, anatomy, health conditions, previous treatment, goals and the ability to complete the necessary follow-up. The consultation should compare expected benefits, risks, alternatives and the possibility of not having surgery at that time.
